Weekly Training Tip: Running in Cold Weather
It’s the beginning of February, and many areas are experiencing COLD weather! Of course, “Cold” is all relative, but even in sunny So Cal we can tell when it’s winter!
Try to schedule your winter running when the sun is the warmest. Perhaps you can run on your lunch hour when the sun feels nice and toasty. The wind also can be a serious factor. On a windy day, try to plan your out-and-back run so you are running into the wind for the first half of the run when you are full of energy. Then the wind will be at your back, helping you on the homeward stretch. And remember a proper warm-up is even more important in the winter because exposure to the cold stiffens your muscles and joints. It’s a good idea to end your run with a slow jog or a brisk walk.
Dressing in layers is the key to staying warm, dry and comfortable in harsh weather. My favorite base layer is a RaceReady Ready Tech Long Sleeve…..OK, so maybe I’m biased…. If it’s REALLY COLD where you are, nothing beats our DryLine Zip Shirt!
