Ask Mary: Carrying Water

Question:  We’re running Sydney Marathon on Sept. 19th. Still wondering how to carry bottles etc. My Asics belt is a bit heavy with 750ml bottle and it’s annoyingly bouncy. Your shorts look good for carrying gels and extra powder to mix.     Do you use that method for Marathons yourself? What to do?     Would the shorts get to us in time if I order today?  Thanks, Sue

Australia!

Answer:  Hello Sue,

The pockets on our LD (Long Distance) shorts are ideal for carrying energy gels and other small items.  Most marathon races have water available along the course, so I don’t think it is necessary to carry your own water-bottle.    I’ve run 28 marathons and never have carried water.  I find fanny packs and fuel belts to be cumbersome. RaceReady  LD (Long Distance) shorts work great for carrying energy gels, chap stick etc.   You can enjoy the running & not have the annoying “bounce” of the fanny pack.    We ship orders on a daily basis.  Our average delivery time for International orders is 5 – 8 business days.  Our average delivery time for USA delivery addresses is 3 business days.
Enjoy Sydney!

Multi-Purpose Apparel!

We love it when our customers send us pictures and or tell us stories of their adventures wearing RaceReady.    We have a great photo of a RaceReady fisherman wearing his White RaceReady Cap, holding a huge fish he caught.     Recently, we heard from a customer who thinks RaceReady long distance shorts are ideal to wear while kayaking.    I’ll let Dian tell you about it.

20th Annual RattleSnake Run!

RattleSnake_1

Sunday, August 1st, was the 20th annual Rattlesnake Run & Hike.   “What is a RattleSnake Run?” you might ask.  Well, it’s a hilly run /hike  in Griffith Park – most folks do about 7 miles – during which you hope to NOT see (or at least not get bitten by)  a Rattlesnake!

We take off from our house and meander up to the infamous Observatory, which is about a mile or so.   Next, we make the ascent to the top of Mt. Hollywood, which is about another 1 1/2 miles.

It’s all downhill from here….well, sort of….except for those little uphills that sneak up on us.    A slight detour will bring us to the Bat Caves.  For those of us old enough to remember the TV series BAT MAN, this is filming site for where the bat mobile would emerge each episode with the caped crusaders.

At the end of the Rattlesnake adventure, we gather in our patio for refreshments,  aka Button-Breads and juice.

It’s been great fun with wonderful friends these past 20 years!    May the tradition continue for another 20 years!

Baby It’s Hot Outside!

Summer is finally here in Southern California.  Until this past week it has been a fairly mild summer for us.   Not anymore.  The past few days have been over 90 degrees.  Ouch!

A few  things to remember before you head out the door in the sweltering heat:

DRESS FOR THE CONDITIONS -  Think light-weight, breathable clothing!   My personal summer-time shirt is our RaceReady V-Neck shirt – it offers some sun protection for the shoulders, yet it is very light-weight, cool and comfortable.

DRINK UP –    Make sure you are properly hydrated.    This means you should have plenty of water to drink before, during and after your run.  An electrolyte drink is also a good idea, especially if you are running for more than an hour.

SHADE /SHADES -   Try to pick a running route with some natural shade, such as a canopy of trees.   And, don’t forget to wear your own “shades” or sunglasses.    I also like to wear a light-weight cap in the summertime.

TAKE IT EASY  – Don’t overdo it!    When the temperature soars, it is good to ease up on your running pace.   Your body is already being taxed by the heat so slow your pace and take it easy!        Save the harder faster workouts for the cooler weather!

Machu Picchu!

Along the Inca Trail - Saturday evening June 19th at camp.

Along the Inca Trail - Saturday evening June 19th at camp.

We spent some time in Cusco,  5 days along the Inca Trail (camping 4 nights) and some time in Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley.   WOW!  What a trip!      All you runners out there,  people DO run a marathon along the Inca Trail.  Howver, I think it preferable to do a  4-day hike.  Why rush through the Inca Trail in ONE Day, when you can take your time, linger and Enjoy it for FOUR Days?       Gerry took a bunch of pictures which you can see here.     As may be obvious in some of the photos, we wore RaceReady shorts and RaceReady shirts on the trail.  RaceReady apparel is great on the trails….it’s not just for running anymore.
