About Mary & Gerry

RaceReady is owned and operated by Gerry Hans and Mary Button, husband and wife. Mary and Gerry began running in 1988 and their passion for the sport led to the advent of RaceReady in 1993.

Mary Button has run more than 25 marathons, including several Boston Marathons. She qualified for the Olympic Marathon Trials in 1996 and in 2000. Her proudest running achievement is her participation in the 2000 Olympic Marathon Trials as a master runner. Mary is a compulsive book reader. She has aspirations of writing her own book about the modern day history of running and the running industry someday.

Gerry Hans has run over 10 marathons, and about 10 times as many half-marathons. He has run Boston a few times and has a marathon Personal Record of 3:16.

Gerry is active with several civic organizations, and keeps a careful eye on protecting "open space" in the community.  For three years he has served on a community working group tasked to re-write the Master Plan for a large regional park, Griffith Park, of which its original ($400,000) version had mis-guided goals - and was solidly rejected by the citizens of Los Angeles.  He is also a member of the Steering Committee of Griffith Park Natural History Survey, and is involved with flora and fauna scientific work in the 4300+ acres park.

Gerry and Mary enjoy running, and both prefer doing most of their running on trails. They can often be found along the trails in Griffith Park, which is the nation's largest "urban park", located very close to their business in Glendale, California.
